How Popular Are Subaru EVs?

Subaru’s two newest EVs caught on quickly. According to US sales figures reported by Electrek, the Uncharted and Trailseeker each outsold the Solterra in May and June 2026, although the Solterra still led for the first half of the year because it was on sale longer:

Subaru Hybrids

If you are not ready for a fully electric vehicle, Subaru’s newer hybrids use a Toyota-derived strong hybrid system paired with Subaru’s boxer engine and all-wheel drive:

  • Forester Hybrid: better fuel economy and range than the gas Forester.
  • Crosstrek Hybrid: a more efficient version of Subaru’s popular small crossover.
  • Past plug-in: the Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid (2019–2023) offered a short electric range.

Charging a Subaru EV

2026 Subaru EVs come with a NACS port, providing direct access to compatible Tesla Superchargers, and support Level 2 home charging. For typical charging times, see how long it takes to charge an electric car. To estimate your electricity costs, use our EV charging cost calculator.

Subaru EVs in Winter

Subaru buyers often live in snowy regions. All-wheel drive helps with traction, but cold temperatures still reduce EV range. Precondition the cabin and battery while plugged in, and use good winter or all-weather tires. Our winter car prep and snow tire guide has more tips.

Is There a Tax Credit for a Subaru EV?

Not at the federal level anymore. The federal clean vehicle credit of up to $7,500 ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, and that included the lease version of the credit. Some states, utilities and local programs still offer EV rebates or charger incentives, and Subaru dealers sometimes run their own lease or financing offers, so check what applies where you live before you buy.

Ownership and Warranty

Subaru EVs need less maintenance than gas cars, with no oil changes, as covered in do electric cars need oil changes. Subaru typically warrants the EV battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Check your specific model year for exact terms and capacity guarantees.

Charging safety: Have a licensed electrician install any Level 2 home charger and avoid ordinary extension cords. Respect ground-clearance and water-fording limits in the owner’s manual when driving off-road.
