Charging a BMW EV
BMW EVs support Level 2 home charging and DC fast charging, and BMW has adopted NACS, giving access to compatible Tesla Superchargers via adapter or a native port on newer models. For typical charging times, see how long it takes to charge an electric car, and estimate costs with our EV charging cost calculator.
Ownership, Depreciation and Leasing
Luxury EVs often depreciate faster than comparable gas cars, which can make used BMW EVs attractive and makes leasing popular for new ones. Estimate value loss with our car depreciation calculator, and compare options in our guide on leasing vs. buying a car. BMW EVs skip oil changes, as explained in do electric cars need oil changes, and BMW typically covers the high-voltage battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
Charging safety: Have a licensed electrician install any Level 2 home charger, use equipment rated for your car, and avoid ordinary extension cords for charging.
